To Say Women Are Victims Is Not Love

This week the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), along with 70 other pro-life leaders, issued an open letter stating they do not see women who get abortions as guilty of murder. Therefore, they opposed an abolition bill that would have criminalized abortion completely and brought justice to unborn children in the state of Louisiana. In doing so, they kept the bill from being passed.

“There are two victims in every abortion: The unborn child who loses her life, and her mother who is left abandoned by the abortion industry to deal with any physical complications, as well as the emotional and psychological pain of the abortion trauma for months or even years to come,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.  “This joint letter recognizes that women who have abortions require our compassion and support, not criminalization.”

Women are not victims.

The pro-life community is acting like women are kidnapped by the abortion industry, forced into an abortion, and left with scars. The abortion industry only exists because mothers and fathers keep it in business. I am not a feminist, but I sure don’t believe women are dumb and brainless. Women should be treated as responsible human beings that are held accountable for their actions and decisions, just like men are. Women were created in the image of God and they are smart. Every woman knows that when she is pregnant, she is carrying a tiny human being. The problem is not that she is unaware of the fact. The problem is not a lack of education. The problem is not that she is a victim of abortion doctors.

The problem is that women, like men, are fallen sinners, in need of the Savior. Women are capable of committing grievous sins, even murdering, or hiring someone to murder, their child.

Real victims are protected when abortion is criminalized.

Legal abortion can fuel and hide sex trafficking because the evidence can be gotten rid of. Young girls can be brought to an abortion clinic without parental consent and get the abortion and leave. No questions, no tracking.

When a woman is truly forced into an abortion against her will, keeping it legal and not a crime, offers her no protection for justice under the law. It’s not hard to understand.

Loving women means telling them the truth.

If abortion truly scars, damages, and causes emotional and psychological trauma, (not to even mention yet it’s a grievous sin against a Holy God) then why would we not want to put up all the restrictions to keep women from making such a horrid choice? Why would we not want abortion to be a crime and deter women from it? It is true that when something is a crime, it is much harder for a person to commit the act. And that is a good thing. Laws help and keep society from dissolving into utter destruction. All pro-lifers agree it should be a crime for a mother, or father, to drown their one-year-old in the bathtub, so the only difference between that child and the unborn child is age and location. Both are human, both are murders.

And there is also the Gospel.

In God’s eyes, women who hire a doctor to intentionally end the life of their unborn child, are guilty of murder. So to not agree with God on this is to be blind to the truth and cause hurt to women. To not point out the sin committed is to withhold forgiveness and freedom of guilt from women.

“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” Pro 28:13

One must recognize, confess and forsake their sin, turning to Christ for forgiveness and grace. Christ died for murderers. He paid the penalty in full for the sin of abortion through the blood atonement, and for any woman to come humbly to Christ with such a sin, He will welcome her with open arms because of what He has done on His cross. Women need forgiveness and cleansing from guilt. Why would we withhold that from them?

Yes, sin is painful. Yes, it causes brokenness and guilt.

But this is why Christ came, to redeem a broken and sinful people. We all deserve no such gift. We deserve justice for our sin, but Christ took it for us. He offers forgiveness to all those that repent and place their trust in Him alone. What glorious news!

This message also goes to any guilty fathers who took and paid for their babies to be murdered at an abortion mill. These men are just as guilty as the women and in need of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Final thoughts.

Let us be truthful with women, they can handle it. Let us teach them to love their children and obey God through the Gospel.

The pro-life community is not thinking about or approaching the issue of abortion biblically. They are not caring for women as they proclaim. It seems they truly do not want abortion to be abolished because the only way for it to be stopped is for it to be criminalized. They are admitting this now in plain speech.

So let’s wake up and seek to be biblical with the abortion issue.

The church should seek to bring justice to unborn babies by supporting complete abolition bills. They should care for the women that have found themselves with an unwanted child by offering help, housing, financial support, counseling, baby showers, adoption, and the Gospel.

How do you find them? Your local abortion mill. So go!
